AIGA PHILADELPHIA

AIGA PHILADELPHIA

In 1981, a group of Philadelphia designers formed AIGA Philadelphia, the first local chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts. Presently the chapter is comprised of over 600 members. AIGA Philadelphia’s purpose is both integral and complementary to the national organization: to provide the highest standards within the profession and the business community and to stimulate interest and understanding of graphic design and visual communication through lectures, exhibitions, and other activities.

Also, I'm featured in their Member Spotlight. "When I moved to Philadelphia from Los Angeles two years, I didn’t know anyone. I just knew Philadelphia had an AIGA chapter that’s where I needed to start."

WOMEN WHO DESIGN

WOMEN WHO DESIGN

Created by @julesforrest, @womenwhodesign is a Twitter profile directory of inspiring women in the design industry. It aims to help people find notable voices to follow on Twitter that are most interesting to them.

"I got the idea to build Women Who Design after a recent Twitter thread generated a huge list of amazing women who work on all different aspects of design. A few people were joking around that the thread was a great place to find potential recruits and I realized I had a different need: I’m not trying to recruit anyone but I’d love to find women who are excelling at specific things that I'm interested in or trying to learn more about. It also seemed like a waste to let the list get lost in all the noise on Twitter, so I decided to use it as a jumping off point and record each woman's profile in a free-standing, sortable directory."

CREATIVEMORNINGS

CREATIVEMORNINGS

CreativeMornings is a breakfast lecture series for the creative community. In 2008, Tina Roth Eisenberg (Swissmiss) started CreativeMornings out of a desire for an ongoing, accessible event for New York’s creative community. The concept was simple: breakfast and a short talk one Friday morning a month. Every event would be free of charge and open to anyone. Today, attendees gather in cities around the world to enjoy fresh coffee, friendly people, and an international array of breakfast foods. Volunteer hosts and their team members organize local chapters that not only celebrate a city’s creative talent, but also promote an open space to connect with like-minded individuals.

THE FAINTING CLUB

THE FAINTING CLUB

Founded by artist Zoe Crosher, "The Fainting Club" is an old boys’ club, for girls. It gathers over food and drinks when inspiration strikes, and aims to strike its members with inspiration. It celebrates and draws creative women from multiple disciplines—artists, writers, filmmakers, chefs, musicians—and welcomes any and all like-minded souls. Started in Los Angeles and based on the knowledge that strong, interesting and intelligent women are more powerful as a group, the club has begun to expand internationally. It now has chapters in New York, Mexico City, London and Hong Kong. All new members must be invited in person or, if distance prevents this, verbally, as connection and conversation are key to the club’s purpose. The only requirement for joining is a generous, collaborative spirit and a willingness to support other women. - Charlotte Druckman,  The New York Times
